Le Mans 24hrs Scale Models | Diecast Le Mans CarsSurely one of the worlds most famous races, the Le Mans 24 hour race is the stuff of legends. Run once a year since 1923 this race brings epic battles between some of the biggest car manufacturers around a race circuit almost 8.5 miles in length, a mix of both race track and public roads, closed for the race.
To put that into simpler terms, by the end of more recent Le Mans races, the competitors will usually complete over 3000 miles in race distance, meaning that they should easily be able to cover the entire width of the USA, coast to coast in one full day (Virginia Beach, Va. to San Jose, Ca. is approximately 2,990 miles).
The cars involved have in always been showpieces of technology and innovation, but in a different way to Formula 1. After the Le Mans 24hrs early beginnings when superchargers were used back in 1929, and later such innovations as gas turbines, turbo chargers and even more recently diesel engines - something that seemed unlikely to many little more than 10 years ago.
